ABOUT WRITER

So who wrote this tutorial and why should you trust what he tells you? My name is Joel Pippin. You don't have to trust me. You should, but you don't have to. In fact, the first lesson in the tutorial is here: don't trust sources on the Internet as authoritative without any proof. Too much False Authority Syndrome is out there in the ether, and lots of misinformation is out there with the information as a result.

That said, I own my own company that provides network adminstration and security services to small businesses. I have eight years of network experience in large and small corporate environments. I grew up working on computers for friends and family, and in a few days I will have completed my master's degree in Information Science at The Univeristy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My undergraduate degree is in computer and information systems security through the interdiscplinary studies program also at UNC. My master's paper dicusses the risks on implementing biometric technology without a wider community effort to handle the security of highly personal data, and is available here. I'm also 32, married, and will have a second daughter in a month or so. That last pary may not seem relevant, but it's who this 'about' is about. I hope you enjoy the tutorial.
